Christina Szakonyi is a Florida based artist specializing in bronze animal sculpture. From unseen origins to the unifying beauty across diverse forms, Szakonyi mines the legacy of the animal. Drawing from both personal interactions with animals and admiration from afar, her work is driven by a search for the essence of the unexplainable something in an animal’s presence. Szakonyi's animals rise from abstraction in sculptures that have been described as joyful, explosive and serene. "I am sculpting the animal as if seeing it for the first time. Upward and outward the animal emerges into the studio, coming into focus. I’m always refining the work, in search of the divine thread that permeates the presence of an animal, something that feels both ancient and of the moment." Christina Szakonyi holds an MFA from Florida State University and is an associate member of the National Sculpture Society.
