Our Story

PJAS, established in 2024, is an arts magazine founded by students at the University of Pennsylvania. Recognized for its unique fusion of creative and scholarly works, PJAS offers a blend of print and digital content that celebrates diverse artistic expressions from Penn and beyond. Our digital home, upennjournalarts.org, is where we publish an eclectic mix of visual art, poetry, creative writing, and thought-provoking articles year-round. Additionally, PJAS releases four print issues annually, each showcasing a curated selection of works that reflect the vibrant creativity of our contributors.

Our Founder

PJAS was founded by Sophie Kadan, a member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of 2025. As the head editor and organizer, Sophie aims to foster connections among members through their shared passion for creativity, particularly at the intersection of arts and sciences. A longtime artist and researcher, she recognizes the critical role of art in engaging diverse and enthusiastic audiences, despite its often limited presence in academic journals. Through PJAS, Sophie is committed to making art more accessible within the academic community, ensuring it receives the recognition and platform it deserves, while also inspiring a broader appreciation for the profound impact of creative expression in scholarly work.
