Pennsylvania Journal
of Arts & Sciences
A magazine of contemporary art, writing, and scholarship — published continuously online, and four times a year in print.
Every corner of the magazine
PJAS publishes contemporary art, writing, and scholarship — seasonal exhibitions in print, and new work added continuously online. Move through each section below to see what's inside.
Each season, we assemble a themed exhibition of painting, photography, and mixed media, published in print and online. The current issue gathers work on being seen and being here.
Read the full issueWe publish poetry, fiction, and academic scholarship on a rolling basis — creative and critical writing held to the same standard, released as it's ready rather than in batches.
Read the latest writingBeyond the work itself, we interview contributors, maintain a searchable directory of every artist and author, and document how individual pieces come together in the studio.

Creative work is not presented alongside scholarship — but with the same weight and expectation.
The Pennsylvania Journal of Arts & Sciences (PJAS) was founded in 2024 as an independent publication devoted to contemporary creative work. It brings together visual art, poetry, and writing in a format that moves easily between disciplines without treating them as separate categories.
PJAS publishes online throughout the year and releases seasonal print issues, shaped through an editorial process that favors work with a clear sense of form and direction. The journal continues to grow beyond its campus roots, working with artists and writers whose practices feel considered, precise, and fully their own.
