Immersion
by Chaepin Kim
“My name is Chaepin Kim, and I am a freshman majoring in art at the University of California Irvine. I have always had fond memories of art and the artmaking process. I often watched National Geographic for inspiration as my art primarily focuses on the world's ongoing environmental and social issues. Through these documentaries, I gained a profound understanding of human-made industries' colossal impact on animals and their habitats. I aspire to broaden the reach of these critical topics, making them more accessible to a wider audience by evoking an approachable and engaging atmosphere. In general, I practiced employing vibrant and intense hues with thick acrylic paint to depict the positive role animals play in our lives, while I turned to achromatic colors, utilizing graphite and ink as necessary, to express the evident negative consequences of human actions on animals. Because of the complexity of my art, the meaning is not always obvious to eye; however, the fact that I create art out of compassion for animals is obvious. My goal is to continue to communicate artistically with the audience about the overarching theme of animal sacrifice from a completely different viewpoint, which humans overlook.”
