Marcie Stammen
Art as a Sacred Journey of Healing and Transformation
For Marcie Stammen, art is more than just a creative practice—it is a spiritual pursuit, a means of healing, reflection, and divine connection. Though she did not grow up in an environment centered around the arts, she was always drawn to creativity and spirituality as ways to understand the world.
"My journey into art was deeply personal. It was born from a need for healing, transformation, and spiritual connection. Art became a way to process life’s experiences, an avenue through which I could discover deeper truths and connect with something greater than myself."
Rather than a single defining moment, Stammen describes a series of experiences that revealed the transformative power of art. Through creating, she found a way to move through challenges and emerge with clarity and peace, eventually feeling called to share that experience with others.
A Foundation in Fine Arts & Lifelong Learning
Stammen's formal artistic education began at Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD), where she studied for two years before earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University. More recently, she refined her craft through the Milan Art Institute, continuously seeking growth through books, mentorship, and hands-on practice.
Though she values formal education, she believes that artistic evolution is an ongoing journey—one fueled by constant learning, experimentation, and deep spiritual inquiry.
Artistic Style & Creative Process
Stammen’s work is characterized by its integration of sacred symbolism, fragmented hymns, and an ethereal quality that invites deep contemplation. She experiments with various mediums, but her primary tools include:
Collage, Spray Paint, Inks, and Mark Making – to create depth and texture.
Oils – to add richness and resonance, elevating the emotional impact of each piece.
Recurring themes in her work include:
Spiritual transformation
Healing through art
The interplay of divine connection and human experience
Much of her inspiration is drawn from sacred art, religious iconography, and the meditative power of hymns and prayers rather than specific artists. These elements weave through her compositions, infusing them with profound meaning.
"The use of hymns in my work is intentional—it allows each piece to carry a sacred essence, inviting the viewer into a reflective space."
Her creative process is rooted in prayer and quiet reflection. Before beginning a new piece, she aligns her intention with the deeper purpose of her work, seeking guidance through the Holy Spirit.
"I often begin with prayer or quiet reflection, allowing myself to be guided. This practice helps me remain centered and ensures that my work remains an authentic expression of spiritual connection."
She also finds inspiration in nature, sacred spaces, and music. The intricate beauty of stained glass windows, for example, has influenced the way she incorporates light and fragmentation into her compositions.
Overcoming Creative Blocks & Finding Meaning Through Art
Like all artists, Stammen has encountered periods of creative block. However, rather than forcing inspiration, she chooses to step back and receive.
"When I feel creatively blocked, I take a step back and allow myself to receive rather than force inspiration. Prayer, time in nature, and revisiting hymns or sacred texts help me reconnect with my purpose."
One particularly challenging yet rewarding piece came when she struggled to balance abstraction and sacred symbolism. The process pushed her to trust the imperfection and fluidity of creation.
"In the end, that piece became one of my most meaningful works, resonating deeply with those who encountered it."
Reflections, Aspirations & Defining Success
For Stammen, success is not about recognition or financial gain—it is about impact.
"Success, for me, is not about numbers or accolades—it is about whether my work touches someone’s heart, whether it brings them a moment of stillness, clarity, or connection with the divine."
She hopes to continue creating art that bridges the sacred and the everyday, bringing peace, contemplation, and renewal to those who experience it.
Her approach remains steadfast, even in a world filled with external pressures:
"My work is not about trends; it is about something timeless. As long as I remain connected to my spiritual calling, I trust that my art will reach those who need it."
The Future of Her Work & Artistic Collaborations
Looking ahead, Stammen aspires to expand her work into sacred spaces, installations, and collaborations with musicians and poets who share a similar vision. She is currently working on a new series exploring the interplay of sacred hymns and visual storytelling.
"I would love to collaborate with artists who integrate music, poetry, or mixed media to deepen the spiritual experience of art. Art is a vessel for prayer, and I hope to create work that invites people into that sacred space."
One of the most profound affirmations of her path came when someone shared that her artwork brought them peace during a difficult time.
"That moment reaffirmed why I create. It is not just about the art itself but about the way it touches others."
Final Thoughts
Marcie Stammen’s art is a journey of healing, faith, and transformation. Her ability to weave sacred elements into contemporary mixed media allows her work to resonate on a deep, spiritual level.
For those looking to pursue art—whether for personal growth, spiritual exploration, or professional aspirations—Stammen offers simple but powerful advice:
"Stay true to your voice. The most powerful art comes from authenticity and a deep connection to your purpose."
BIOGRAPHY / ARTIST JOURNEY
As a mother of eight, my life has been a journey of discovery, creativity, and boundless love. For years, I devoted myself to raising my family, exploring the depths of motherhood with no regrets. Now, as my children forge their own paths, I am stepping boldly into the next chapter—rediscovering my passion for art and embracing my calling as a professional artist.
Throughout my life, I have immersed myself in various creative disciplines, from faux painting and murals to interior design and mixed-media crafts. Each experience was an exploration, a way to navigate the ever-present creative drive within me. However, my heart has always belonged to painting—a medium where I feel truly free.
What inspires me most is the idea that it’s never too late to chart a new course. When I shared my dream of rekindling my art career, my daughter told me, “Mom, you’re only 50! You’ve got 50 years left to paint!” Her words became a compass, guiding me toward this new chapter.
As an artist, I strive to create work that reflects the beauty of reinvention, faith, and transformation. My work is an invitation to explore the sacred, embrace prayerful stillness, and find beauty in the journey. This is my path, and I look forward to seeing where it leads.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is a sacred invitation—an offering of peace, prayer, and transformation. Guided by the Holy Spirit, I create works that weave together divine beauty and spiritual reflection, drawing upon fragments of hymns to infuse each piece with sacred meaning. Rooted in a deep desire to heal and uplift, my paintings serve as windows to contemplation, inviting the viewer into a quiet, prayerful space. Through layers of texture, light, and symbolism, I explore themes of divine love, self-discovery, and the sacred mysteries of the Catholic faith. I am called to create for those who seek more than art—for those who desire an encounter. My work is for those who long to bring a sense of stillness and devotion into their homes, chapels, and sacred spaces. Each piece is a vessel of grace, designed to elevate the soul and draw it closer to God. Art, for me, is not just expression; it is prayer. It is an act of faith, a reflection of the unseen, and a quiet testimony to the beauty of holiness. .
