Self Portrait Series
by Susan Kaprov
I’m a multi-media artist based in New York. I describe myself as a dedicated stylistic and thematic explorer, gravitating toward discovery and avoiding genres of any kind. I create by giving myself self-imposed concepts that I explore in depth, using my studio as a “laboratory” and my art as a series of “research projects” where I can investigate with great freedom. My series of ‘Self-Portraits’ are a personal expression of emotions and dreamlike visages. ’From The Garden of Altered Delights’ investigates the issues surrounding genetically modified foods. ‘Allegory of the Senses’, completed during the pandemic, I used color and designs to stimulate sensory awareness. Museum collections include the Museum of Modern Art NY; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam; The Corcoran Gallery of Art; The Yale University Art Gallery; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
