Luminous Solace

by Reina Suyeon Mun

“I am a design researcher and creative technologist whose work spans interactive and responsive objects to spatial constructs. My research explores the affective and cognitive dimensions of human sensory experience and tangible interactions through the integration of machine learning, physical computing, digital fabrication, and sensory design. My submission, Luminous Solace, is an interactive light installation that transforms subconscious fidgeting motions into a dynamic array of generative graphics. These graphics, rather than just light, are randomized and evolve based on the user’s tactile interaction with the embedded sensors. Powered by TinyML, the system detects various fidgeting patterns and translates them into visual compositions, modulating color, intensity, and pattern. The project integrates machine learning, physical computing, digital fabrication, and sensory design to investigate how tangible interactions can create an immersive and therapeutic experience that promotes emotional balance and tranquility.”
