Flame Touched; Trapped In

by Mari Abramishvili

“‘Flame Touched’ is a 70 x 50 cm oil painting on canvas. This artwork explores the deep emotional bond between two figures, connected through their vibrant red hair that resembles a glowing flame. Their intertwined forms and intense gazes symbolize themes of unity, shared experiences, and emotional connection. The lush, organic background with curving shapes suggests the influence of nature on human relationships, adding depth to the story. The use of oil paint brings richness and texture to the piece, enhancing the luminous quality of the fiery reds and soft greens. These colors create a striking contrast, capturing the viewer’s attention while evoking a sense of warmth and intimacy. ‘Flame Touched’ is an invitation to reflect on the profound connections we share with others and the emotions that bind us together, much like flames intertwining and growing stronger.”

“I’m Mari Abramishvili, a Georgian artist who works with oil, acrylics, and mixed media. My art is all about emotions and how colors can tell stories that go deeper than what we see. I love exploring themes like femininity, nature, and self-discovery, aiming to create pieces that make people pause and feel something real. The artwork I’m submitting is called "Trapped In" and is a 25 x 35 cm oil painting on canvas. This piece is about the emotions we feel when we’re stuck—whether it’s in our own thoughts, situations, or relationships. The Venus flytraps symbolize both protection and confinement, reflecting that complicated feeling of being safe yet held back at the same time. I used oil paints to create this work because they allow for rich, vibrant colors and smooth blending, which helped bring out the contrast between the softness of the figure and the sharp edges of the plants. The interplay of these elements tells a story of vulnerability and strength, inviting viewers to think about their own experiences of feeling "trapped in" and how they’ve navigated those moments.”
